Latest people moves from GCG, Roger Bullivant and the University of Dundee

Geotechnical Consulting Group (GCG) appoints a new principal engineer, Roger Bullivant gets a new commercial director, and the University of Dundee welcomes a visiting professor in the latest people moves from across the geotechnical sector.

ABG Geosynthetics has announced founding director Alan Bamforth's retirement.

Bamforth founded the civil engineering geosynthetics company ABG Geosynthetics 35 years ago and has built the company into a successful business. Bamforth will be succeeded by Andrew Leech as the company's new managing director.

Ayesa has promoted Cláudio Cabral Dias to head of ground engineering and tunnelling.

Dias joined Spanish engineering and technology company Ayesa in 2020 as its principal tunnel engineer.

Gavin and Doherty Geosolutions (GDG) has appointed Trevon Joseph as offshore technical director.

Joseph is a chartered geotechnical engineer and doctor of engineering specialising in offshore geotechnics. With more than 15 years’ experience, he has excelled in delivering complex engineering projects for the renewable energy industry globally and has supervised research into innovative geotechnical topics.

In his new role Joseph will continue to support GDG's expansion into new offshore services and markets.

Geotechnical Consulting Group (GCG) has welcomed Frankie Lo as its new principal engineer.

Low is a chartered engineer with more than 17 years practical experience. His primary focuses are landslide risk assessment and management, slope stability and deep excavations.

Before joining GCG, Low was a senior geotechnical engineer at the Geotechnical Engineering Office of the Government of the Hong Kong SAR.

Hypertunnel has appointed medical imagining expert Paul Ross as its principal software engineer.

Ross has previously worked at Toshiba Medical, Optos and Sense Photonics, where he developed systems for computer vision, data visualisation, and real-time data acquisition and processing in the highly advanced medical sector.

As part of his new role at Hypertunnel Ross will lead the company's software imaging, part of which involves developing new systems to allow its clients to visualise in 3D the company's robot-gathered digital ground surveys as well as its digital twins of underground infrastructure.

Robert Bird Group has promoted Rhea Albelda to associate director of geotechnical.

Albelda joined the Australian global consulting engineering firm Robert Bird Group in 2020 as its geotechnical team lead for the Middle East and North Africa.

Roger Bullivant has appointed Stuart Donovan as its new commercial director.

Donovan joins the company from Solvera Contract Management where he was the director and provided commercial and contract support across various infrastructure and building projects. Donovan has more than 25 years’ experience in commercial management and construction law and has previously worked in the UK, South Africa, UAE, Malaysia and Australia.

Seequent has appointed Roger Chandler as strategic advisor to the geotechnical management team.

Chandler has been director of business development at Bentley's subsurface software company Seequent since September 2022 and originally joined Bentley following its acquisition of Keynetix in May 2019. In his new role Chandler will focus on specifying new features for Seequent's Open Ground platform solution, including laboratory reporting and management capabilities. He will also continue to spread the word on the benefits and developments in geotechnical information management.

The Subsidence Forum has elected the Foreshaw Group's managing director Liam Hanlon as its chair.

Hanlon takes over from Tree Law director and founder Sarah Dodd, who stepped down at the organisation's 2023 annual general meeting following two years in the role. Catalyst Services UK head of technical and network Paul Duddle was elected as the forum's new vice chair.

University of Dundee has appointed Roger Bullivant chief geotechnical engineer Jon Ball as visiting industrial professor in civil engineering.

Ball has secured a three-year contract and will assist the School of Science and Engineering with research, and input to course relevance for employers. He will also host his first lecture on real-world piling in autumn/winter 2023.

Ball joined Roger Bullivant 29 years ago, starting his career as a pile testing engineer in 1994 and is currently the company's chief geotechnical engineer. He is also the chair of the Federation of Piling Specialists' technical committee.

Wood Thilsted has relocated specialist engineers Jack Cran and Luke Graydon to South Korea to support the development of potential fixed and floating offshore wind farms.

Cran and Graydon will be co-located with Copenhagen Offshore Partners in South Korea from April 2023. Cran will bring his skills in geotechnical engineering, while Graydon will be supporting on floating foundation engineering. Both will be supported by the specialist offshore wind engineering company's teams in Taiwan and Europe.
