4.4 Magnitude earthquake measured near Nahanni National Park

A 4.4 magnitude earthquake rocked the Mackenzie Mountain Range, near Nahanni National Park Reserve this morning.

Taimi Mulder, a seismologist at Natural Resources Canada, says the closest measuring instrument was 100km away, where the movement was detected.

"It was quite a shallow earthquake, measuring in at a 4.4 magnitude according to our instruments," Mulder said.

"Based on our readings, we can assume the movement was around 1km down," she added.

According to Mulder, the closest settlement to the earthquake was Tungsten, over 100km away.

"I haven't heard any reports of anyone feeling the movement, but there were two other earthquakes nearby in May alone." Mulder told MyTrueNorthNow.
